My warrant article had a hearing this evening. There were other interesting topics on the agenda, including GDBG applications.

The town received 21 GDBG applications this year. All came from prior applicants. Brief notes on a few of the applications:

  • Council on Aging. A program for adult day health. They're hoping to provide 26 "scholarships" for adult day health services.
  • Council on Aging. The council's volunteer coordinator is fully funded through GDBG. The coordinator coordinates activity of approximately 180 volunteers.
  • Council on Aging. Transport enterprise funds. The Council seeks funding to give people rides to and from the senior center. The funding is needed to run a low-cost transportation program.
  • Operation Success (which operates out of Menotomy Manor). Nightly tutoring programs to help kids with homework and academics. This program runs Mon--Thu during the school year.
  • Food Link. Serves 2000 residents of Arlington. Last year, the group collected 380,000 pounds of food, and distributed 200,000 pounds in Arlington. This grant focuses explicitly on deliveries to AHA properties.
  • Parks department. A grant for summer camps and summer programs.
  • Housing Corporation of Arlington. Large project at 117 Broadway, and capital improvements to existing properties.
  • ? House. A program for kids at Menotomy Manor.
  • Arlington Boys and Girls club. Summer programs. A place for kids to go during the summertime, while their parents are at work.

Arlington will hold a special town meeting on April 26th. The STM will focus on capital requests for Gibbs construction, and transfer of funds from the school stabilization fund. The STM warrant opens on Feb 22nd.
