We installed Linux on two Thinkpads this evening, an X41 and a an x200s.

The X41 install was simple. The machine had 1.5GB of RAM, and we elected to go with xubuntu. Everything worked on the first try.

The x200s was more challenging: xubuntu didn't recognize the laptop's wireless card.

According to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Lenovo_ThinkPad_X200#Wireless, this model has an Intel Wireless 5100 AGN chipset, and uses the iwlwifi driver.

The modprobe configuration disabled this driver at boot. We commented out this part of modprobe's configuration, and xubuntu recognized the wireless.
